Hypothetical New Countries

Bead knitting, 32 x 19 cm, 2017

The Hypothetical New Countries is composed of six beadworks knit by using traditional Kurdish technique; a Catalonian passport, a Kurdish passport, a Palestinian passport, a Western Saharian passport, a Scottish passport and a Somaliland passport. The works show passports of the countries that probably will gain independence next. Kamanger learned the bead knitting technique from his aunt, and he has been using it in new, innovative ways. In his working, modern themes are combined with Central Asian handicraft tradition.
