Glass fusing each 42 x 52 cm, 2019
The After the Attack series consists of city flags that have been woven with beads and melted on a porcelain tile in a ceramics kiln. The flags represent cities where a terrorist attack has taken place in recent years. The beaded work that required patience and several hours of work melts into a mass of glass with one burn, which in this context can be compared to what violence does to culture. The burning act could be compared to the Buddha statues blown up by the Taliban in Afghanistan: the centuries-old cultural memorials were destroyed with the press of a button.
